Building iPhone Apps - What Do You Need?


Though Apple provides the iOS Xcode SDK Application for building iPhone apps, it requires the knowledge of the java /programming language. If you are not a developer yourself or if you don't have programming language, you can look into using third party softwares to develop apps. There are many 3rd party development tools to make the job a lot easier.
Same as the Xcode SDK Application, most of the third party development tools require the use of Mac. However, if you don't own a mac, there are softwares out there to allow to carry out iPhone development on windows.
The 3rd party softwares are particularly useful for people who has some IT knowledge but not experienced in programming.
There are quite a number of third party iPhone app maker softwares out there on the market. The costs of them vary a great deal. Some company provides quite user friendly interface for you to submit app ideas or describe interface screens etc. Some would charge for a fee for the software, some would develop the app for free in exchange for advertising. There are also others who would take a percentage of the revenue for payment.
Besides the iPhone app creator softwares, you might need other softwares to help with managing your app project. Here are a few useful apps in the app store that are great for this purpose.
1. To do list. Developing an app is a project and a to do list can be used as a simple project plan to keep you on track.
2. Graphic design tools - understanding user interface and graphic design is a very important part of app development. Do no under estimate the power of graphic design.
3. Screen flow tools. When you submit an app to Apple store, you need to show a few screen shots of you app. This tool helps you create the screen shot for this purpose. Little snapper is a great screen flow app.
4. Status Barred - When submitting screen shots, Apple requires the status bar to be removed from the screen shots. This is an essential tool for satisfying this requirement.
5. Sketch - if you are working in vector based mode, this is an useful app.
6. Lastly and probably most importantly - a tool to promote your app outside the app store. There are word press iPhone app templates available just for this purpose. It allows you to publish screen shots of the app and get users to sign up the newsletter.
